Bush takes a leak
...and through the Magic of Spin, it becomes declassified. And as usual, the story keeps morphing. I'm not even going to bother to try to figure out the real story at this point; whatever it may be, we certainly haven't heard it yet. I wait, with the famous moist and bated breath, for the completed investigation of Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald. While I admit it's kind of fun watching the damage control, in the long run, there's little yet to celebrate in the way of proof -- and sadly little that will resonate with the public. A recent study has shown that the average American can name more members of Homer Simpson's animated clan than amendments in the Bill of Rights. I'd be happy if Americans could at least understand the fundamental concepts of the Constitution; but being able to comprehend something as simple as freedom of speech these days only gets one called a pointy-headed liberal at best, and a treasonous supporter of Islamofacism at worst.

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our People, and eat out their substance. Homeland Security, and it's funding of flak-jackets for firedogs, while our ports go virtually unprotected.
He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil Power. Pentagon files on Quakers.
He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended legislation: Contemplate to de facto Colonies of Iraq and Afghanistan on the following two points --
For quartering large bodies of armed troops among us: Duh!
For protecting them, by a mock Trial, from Punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States: Abu Ghraib.
For imposing taxes on us without our Consent: This time around, it's been a shift of the tax burden from the wealthiest citizens and corporate giants onto the backs of the American middle class and the poor.
For depriving us, in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury: Extraordinary rendition, or kidnapping, to call it by it's true name.
For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences: Or tortured.
For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighboring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies: Well, they did try; the short-lived coup in Venezuela.
For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments: This one they left up to Delay in Texas.
He has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people. Drowning polar bears, drowning New Orleans, a Gulf Coast in ruins, and dead miners. Abuse and neglect are criminal offences.
He is at this time transporting large armies of foreign mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy of the Head of a civilized nation. Mercenaries? In New Orleans as well as the Middle East.
In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free People.
